Roman Candle Presents Brosseau & Blackwell
Saturday 5th May, 7.30PM.
Tom Brosseau learned acoustic guitar from his grandmother and has toured every year of his career - Japan, Canada, Portugal, Iceland, Australia, the USA to name a few; has performed in bars, backyards, grand halls, theaters, barber shops and old folks homes.
John Parish (PJ Harvey) and Sean Watkins (Watkins Family Hour, Nickel Creek) produced Brosseau’s 2014-2016 trilogy of albums. While playing at the renowned Los Angeles club, Largo, Brosseau met actor John C. Reilly and they performed together as John Reilly & Friends.
Brosseau has been featured on Cerys Matthews’ BBC6 show, NPR’s All Songs Considered, Weekend Edition & NPR’s First Listen; his songs included in Judd Apatow’s Netflix series Love, and in the Showtime series, Shameless, and chosen by Natalie Portman for a compilation.
Tom Brosseau’s new album, Treasures Untold is a collection, 10 songs - 6 from the Great American Folksong Book and 4 originals - recorded live at a private event in Cologne, Germany. The liner notes are by Daniel J. Levitin, a musician and author, among other works, of This Is Your Brain On Music.
In Tom’s words, "with Treasures Untold I get to share a side of music that I haven’t necessarily been able to do before, by exposing people to some of the great songs of yesteryear, songs that have touched and influenced me, songs that when I first heard them I thought to myself, How could I have even lived until now without hearing this before?”
“No artist possesses the same peculiar qualities as Brosseau…. The power of his performing persona is so strong that he can pervade the whole room with his subjective existence, making time-warped acolytes out of his audience.” - BBC.com
"Wonderful, Heartfelt Music" Bob Harris, BBC radio 2
